See RivCo's Police Dogs Compete At The Annual K9 Public Safety Fair The K9 Trial and Public Safety Fair is coming up on Saturday in Norco, where residents can watch dogs from all over compete in trials.

NORCO, CA — Police dogs, better known as K9 units, will compete in the annual K9 Trial and Public Safety Fair hosted by Riverside County this Saturday, Nov. 9.

Every year, the competition draws law enforcement agencies from all over the state and country to compete in the trials. Dog and handler teams are tasked with competing in a two-day course designed to test narcotic detection, evidence location, protection, agility and obedience.

"For law enforcement agencies, these competitions are instrumental in the further education of K9 teams by comparing training programs and team performance," according to the event website.

Admission is free this Saturday at the Ingalls Event Center located at 3737 Crestview Dr. in Norco. The gates open at 7:30 a.m. when the public safety fair kicks off. The K9 obedience and agility events begin at 8 a.m.; lunch is held at noon; 12:45 is the grand ceremony, color guard and national anthem and from 1 to 4 p.m. the K9 protection events are held.

The competition is always held on the first Friday and Saturday in November.

The competition is limited to the first 60 preregistered K9 teams and unregistered teams may be turned away on the day of the event due to space limitations. The second day (this Saturday) is open to the public to watch the trials and to explore a public safety fair hosted by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Lots of Riverside County agencies will be on hand to conduct demonstrations, including local fire departments, the Riverside County Underwater Search and Recovery Team, Mounted Posse, Hazardous Device Team, Special Enforcement Bureau, and the Aviation Team.

"The public safety fair is a rare opportunity to see public safety's finest at work.," according to the event website.
