Get Lit! Program Series: PainSavvy Health Literacy
On Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Blackfoot Room on Level Four of the library join this health literacy class to learn about strategies for preventing and overcoming persistent pain, increase movement and have fun! Join us for a 25-minute talk about pain and evidence-informed pain management followed by an optional 25-minute walk. Times are approximate and participants are welcome to walk as much or as little as they'd like. No registration required.
Veterans Day Library Closure
The library will be closed on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. Normal library services will resume on Nov. 12.
Memory Café
Memory Café is a welcoming and supportive space for individuals experiencing memory loss and their caregivers and family members. The next meeting is on Nov. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Cooper Room A/B on Level Four of the library. This month will be a scent-sational café that will test what your nose knows!
Dream Bigger Teen After-School Program
On Nov. 12 and Nov. 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Art Box on Level Two of the library, this after-school initiative offers participants the chance to lead their own projects with the support of professional mentors and seed funding, explore career paths through real-world experiences, and gain essential durable skills like critical thinking and collaboration. Make a Zine at the MPL Makerspace
Join us Nov. 12 in the MPL Makerspace from 5 to 7 p.m. and learn how to make a zine. Zines — DIY publications often distributed at punk shows, protests and record stores — are an accessible art form for anyone who wants to express political and personal narratives outside the mainstream. Come learn how to make your own zine — all supplies provided and all experience levels welcome. Age range: 16 and up.
Movie Night at MPL
Join Missoula Public Library and the University of Montana Department of Teaching and Learning for a movie viewing in celebration of the freedom to read. Film will take place Nov. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cooper A on Level Four of the library. Contact the library for the movie title.
Get Lit! Program Series: Astronomy for All: Library Telescopes and Local Astronomy Clubs
On Nov. 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., join Missoula Public Library in Cooper Room B on Level Four of the library for Astronomy for All. Learn about the Missoula Public Library's telescopes available to checkout for patrons and the hobby of amateur astronomy. Nick Wethington — local amateur astronomer and coordinator for the University of Montana's Blue Mountain Observatory — will share about the library's telescopes and the benefits of joining your local astronomy club. Bring your questions about astronomy and telescopes! If the weather is clear, members of the Western Montana Astronomical Association will be on hand for a short observing session with their telescopes on the Level Four balcony directly after the program.
Resource Access Day at Missoula Public Library
Missoula Public Library, Missoula County Community Justice Department, Missoula Municipal Courts, and Pretrial Assistance to Support Success (PASS) program, are partnering to bring Resource Access Day (RAD) to the library. RAD will provide our community with free resources every second Thursday of the month with the next session on Nov. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. on Level Four of the library. Resources will include legal support, housing and benefits assistance, health care, and more. All services are offered on a drop-in basis and lunch will be provided!
Get Lit! Program Series: Missoula Hush Hour, JR.
Calling all young readers! Get cozy in the library for group silent reading! On Nov. 15, bring your favorite book (or five!) and read quietly together in the Imaginarium on the 2nd floor of the library from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Kid-friendly snacks, drinks and background music will be provided. For our more energetic readers, we will have low-key activities as well. This event is designed for kids 5-12 and their families, but older kids/teens are welcome!
Community Heroes Story Time Series: Cops and Cookies
Once a month meet some of the people that keep us safe! On Nov. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Imaginarium on Level Two of the Library the Missoula Police Department is visiting story time! Meet the officers, make a craft, have some cookies, and visit the police car. This special event replaces our usual Saturday Story Time. Story Time is for children ages 3 and older and their caregivers.
Get Lit! Program Series: Grow Music Presents Series
Grow Music in collaboration with Missoula Public Library presents this music series featuring local youth in collaboration with adult musicians. Mark your calendars for "LOW END LEGENDS," a musical journey dedicated to the rich and resonant tones of the bass. This musical program will take place Nov. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Level Four Cooper Room. Curated by Dr. Joel Schnackel, UM's Professor of Double Bass, this program features an array of bass ensembles composed of talented students from middle school through college. The highlight of this event will be the Missoula premiere of an exciting salsa encore by renowned Montana composer Eric Funk. Whether you're a seasoned bass connoisseur or simply curious about the power of low-end frequencies, "LOW END LEGENDS" is an event you won't want to miss.
