Family History Month Series: Family History Writing Contest

Calling all family historians! Enter genealogical writing about your Montana ancestors in Missoula Public Library's second annual Family History Writing Contest starting Oct. 1. Memorialize your family's history and compete for cash prizes. Entries will be accepted until March 1, 2025, via Submittable at missoulapubliclibrary.submittable.com/submit . Story Time for Diverse Abilities

Join Youth Services librarians when they read a selection of engaging stories geared toward teens through adults with cognitive or other disabilities. This program is held twice a month with the next Story Time happening on Oct. 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Families First Classroom on Level Two of the library.

Memory Café

Memory Café is a welcoming and supportive space for individuals experiencing memory loss and their caregivers and family members. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 8 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Cooper Room A/B on Level Four of the library.

This class is for those who are just starting their genealogy journey as well as those that need a refresher. This workshop is held on Oct. 8 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Blackfoot Room on Level Four of the library.

Dream Bigger Teen After-school Program

On Oct. 8 and Oct. 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Art Box on Level Two of the library, this after-school initiative offers participants the chance to lead their own projects with the support of professional mentors and seed funding, explore career paths through real-world experiences, and gain essential durable skills like critical thinking and collaboration. Windows User Group

Want to be more confident using Microsoft Windows? Join us for this two-hour Microsoft Windows User Group held on Oct. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Blackfoot Room on Level Four of the library. Each session will start with a demonstration and discussion of a specific feature followed by an open discussion with Q&A.

Government Poets: An Evening of Poetry and Discussion of the Heart in Local Government

On Oct. 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Cooper Room A/B on Level Four of the library join County Commissioner Josh Slotnick reading from his recent book, "If Only," and Emmie Bristow, Missoula County community engagement coordinator and poet, as they discuss poetry and the glimpses it can offer into the heart of local government. "Local government is us, it's often invisible, always foundational and only works because we are indeed in this together."

Potomac Branch Library Book Club

YMCA Yoga at the Library

Missoula Public Library is thrilled to partner with Missoula Family YMCA to offer free yoga at the library! On Oct. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. in Cooper Room A on Level Four of the library we will focus on basic yoga postures, alignment principles, and breathing techniques that help balance, strengthen, and stretch the body — beginners are welcome!

Resource Access Day at Missoula Public Library

Missoula Public Library, Missoula County Community Justice Department, Missoula Municipal Courts, and Pretrial Assistance to Support Success (PASS) program, are partnering to bring Resource Access Day (RAD) to the library. RAD will provide our community with free resources every second Thursday of the month with the next session on Oct. 10 from noon to 3 p.m. on Level Four of the library. Resources will include benefits, birth certificates and IDs, legal, housing, mental health, medical, vaccinations and immunizations, and more. All services are offered on a drop-in basis and lunch will be provided.

Teen Adventures in Cooking: Iran

Take an imaginary trip to the Middle East as we make traditional dishes with our guest from Iran. This program is open to participants grades 7-12 and is held on Oct. 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Demonstration Kitchen on Level Three of the library.

Missoula Hush Hour MPL

Enjoy an hour of silent reading with fellow library lovers, MPL, Hush Hour Missoula, and KFGM! On Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Level Four balcony awaits readers who want to grab a drink, listen to live tunes and take in beautiful views, all while getting lost in a good book. Please note that only the Main Street entrance doors will be unlocked from 6-6:30 p.m. for entry to the event.

MakerSpace: Electronics – Arduino for Everyone

Join us in the MakerSpace on Oct. 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. learn the basics of electronics using an Arduino device. This beginner-friendly class is a great way to learn the basics of circuitry, coding and more. All materials provided.
