GRATIOT CO., Mich. (WNEM) - Two people from Gratiot County's Sumner Township died in a two-vehicle car crash on Wednesday, according to the Gratiot County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office was dispatched to M-46 and Warner Road in Seville Township for a report of a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 9:15 a.m.

Upon arrival to the scene, deputies found two people dead in one of the vehicles, the sheriff's office said, adding they were identified as a 67-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man who were both from Sumner.

The driver of the other vehicle was a 61-year-old Riverdale man who was suffering from serious injuries, the sheriff's office said. He was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Alma - formerly known as MyMichigan Medical Center Gratiot - for his injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Sumner woman was traveling northbound on Warner Road and failed to stop at a stop sign on M-46, the sheriff's office said. As a result, her car was hit broadside by the vehicle the Riverdale man was driving.

The sheriff's office said it is believed the Riverdale man may have been driving at an excessive speed on M-46 before the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
