Silver Minings: Norv Turner could join the Raiders as an offensive advisor

The Las Vegas Raiders decided to dump a portion of the offensive staff Sunday night. Antonio Pierce decided it was time to move on from offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg, and quarterback coach Rich Scangarello.

With the move, the Raiders now have to choose the interim offensive coordinator. The leading candidate right now is Scott Turner, who is the passing game coordinator for the Tea. Turner was the coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020-2022 before joining the Raiders staff.

Turner has an NFL pedigree because of his father, Norv Turner. Norv Turner has been a long-time NFL coach, both as an OC and head coach. He made a name for himself as the Cowboys OC in the early 90s and was successful as a head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers . He was the Raiders' head coach in 2004-05.

Turner, 72, last worked in 2019 as a special assistant in Carolina, but could join the Raiders staff. If his son becomes the offensive coordinator, he could advise the offense.

The Raiders have veteran coaches throughout the building. Turner would add another to help Pierce get through a struggling campaign for the first-time head coach. The team needs all the help it can get on offense.
