Single-vehicle motorcycle crash results in five-year prison term for young Fredericksburg man

A Fredericksburg man who suffered a motorcycle accident more than two years ago that exposed his drug dealing and other crimes was ordered Wednesday to serve five years in prison.

Austin Myles Reeder, 24, pleaded guilty in Stafford Circuit Court to possession of illegal drugs with the intent to distribute and three firearms-related offenses. He was sentenced to a total of 16 years with 11 years suspended as part of a plea agreement.

According to court records, Reeder was riding a motorcycle on Richmond Highway (U.S. 1) in Stafford on June 3, 2022, when he crashed the bike. A couple who witnessed the crash immediately pulled over to assist the injured biker.

The male Good Samaritan, a retired combat medic, began providing first aid prior to the arrival of medical workers. As Reeder began to regain consciousness, court records state, he became agitated and repeatedly said such things as "just put me in a car" and "I don't want to go to jail."

Reeder insisted on calling his mother, so the man opened his backpack to search for Reeder's phone. It turned out the phone had been destroyed in the crash.

But the man did see a handgun, pills and money in the backpack and told the woman he was with not to let anyone else touch it.

When emergency medical technicians and Deputy S.M. Eastman arrived, the Good Samaritans informed them about the backpack. Inside the backpack, Eastman recovered a loaded Glock, 72 fentanyl pills and loose bills totaling $552.

Reeder did not have a concealed weapons permit, and because he was already a three-time felon, he was not legally allowed to possess a gun at all.

As he was being taken for medical treatment, court records state, Reeder asked multiple medics and hospital staff if they'd recovered his backpack, telling them he badly needed to get it back.
