Siren testing planned for nuclear site in Oak Ridge
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Those in and around Oak Ridge may hear sirens next week as testing is conducted on the public warning siren system.
Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS), which operates the Y-12 National Security Complex in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration, shard that they would be testing of the siren system throughout the week of November 11. During the week, people in the area may occasionally hear the sirens in the vicinity of Y-12 National Security Complex.

The sirens are in place to notify the public if there is an on-site emergency that impacts beyond the Y-12 site boundary. CNS stated that would be an unlikely event, but if there were an actual emergency on the Oak Ridge Reservation, the sirens will sound simultaneously with the standard 3-minute tone.
The sirens in the Oak Ridge Reservation are typically tested on the first Wednesday of the month between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the Department of Energy.
