DALLAS - Six children were injured after Dallas Police say a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle they were riding in.

The hit-and-run accident happened around 10 p.m. along Rugged Drive near West Lebetter Drive on Dallas' Southwest Side.

Dallas Police said a woman was driving a 2016 GMC Acadia with six children inside, ages range from 17 to 4 years old.

While the Acadia was making a left-hand turn, they were hit by a 2018 Chevy Malibu that was speeding through the intersection.

Police said the 4-year-boy is in critical condition after he was not in a child safety seat and was thrown from the vehicle. The 5-year-old was also seriously injured.

The four other children were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The woman driving the Acadia was not injured.

Dallas Police said the driver of the Charger, identified as 20-year-old Jose Castro, and a female passenger ran from the scene. Officers later found Castro in a nearby neighborhood. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He faces two charges of intoxication assault and two charges of collision causing serious bodily injury.
