A Skaneateles author will present her new historical fiction book in Auburn later this month.

Author Karen Hempson will give a talk Wednesday, Nov. 20, about "Shellback," which focuses on a young child of Italian immigrant parents who struggles through the Depression and becomes a sailor in the Pacific during World War II.

The talk will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center, 25 South St., Auburn. It is presented by the Cayuga Museum of History & Art.

Along with the talk, there will be a presentation of artifacts from the Pacific theater of World War II from the collections of Hempson and the museum.

Admission is free and open to the public, and donations will be appreciated. The book will be available for purchase and signing.
