SLU women's basketball loses big to Wake Forest in Hawaii
The St. Louis University women's basketball team followed a record offensive performance against a Division II opponent with a letdown against a power-conference program in the North Shore Showcase in Laie, Hawaii.
The Billikens committed 19 turnovers and their defense could not slow Wake Forest in a 94-66 loss Monday night.
SLU scored a program record 109 points against Chaminade two days earlier, but ran far less efficiently in the follow-up. Kyla McMakin scored 26 points for SLU.
The Billikens traveled to Hawaii off of two big home wins but fell behind Wake Forest, which was picked to finish 14th in the Atlantic Coast Conference, by nine after the first quarter and never made a run.
SLU (3-2) shot better than 50% most of the game before fading late. Wake Forest shot 55% and made 11 3-pointers while the Billikens made two.
The Billikens won the rebounding battle by three and shot more free throws. But Wake Forest turned the 19 turnovers into 20 points and never trailed.
The Billikens finish the event Tuesday against BYU, which beat Wake Forest by 23 points and held the Demon Deacons to 44 points.
