Smart shopping expert: ‘Use at least one deal site or savings tool’ for Cyber Monday deals

Shoppers spent a record breaking $9.8 billion over the holiday weekend but a majority are still holding out for deeper discounts online. In fact, 70% of Americans still plan to wait for some of those deals.

Smart shopping Expert Trae Bodge joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to discuss what you need to know about Cyber Monday.

“If you are planning to shop today as many people are, it's all online. What's great about that, is you can take your time, you can do your research,” she said. “So I will use a tool like Google Shopping or Yahoo shopping to search the items that you're looking for, to get a sense of the pricing at certain retailers versus other retailers.”

Bodge says the biggest discounts this Cyber Monday are in the tech category, small home appliances, fall apparel and beauty. Deeper discounts on other items like toys and winter apparel are expected in December so she suggests keeping an eye out for that.

“You also want to commit to using at least one deal site or savings tool. One of my favorites for today is Slick Deals because they have 12 million deal seekers who are all working together to find the best deals,” Bodge said. “The strongest deals will be on their front page but you can also use the site by searching by retailer or category. If there are specific items on your list, set a deal alert on and you'll be notified when that item goes on sale so you don't have to spend your time digging around.”
