Sneinton: Burglars who targeted elderly victim jailed

Two women who stole hundreds of pounds after targeting an elderly man in his home have been jailed.

Dawn Charles, 41, and Tanya Rowley, 47, went into the victim's property in Sneinton, Nottingham, and stole his wallet, police said.

They then used his bank cards to withdraw £600 from a nearby in-store cash machine, and made two contactless payments totalling more than £100.

The force said a "distinctive tattoo" on Charles's right ankle and Rowley's black boots seen on CCTV helped convict the pair.

Detectives used CCTV pictures from the shop and the man's home to identify the pair.

Police said despite making efforts to hide her face, Charles was "clearly identifiable" be her tattoo on her right ankle.

Meanwhile, Rowley was "betrayed by her distinctive black boots" and long padded jacket.

A distinctive gold coloured hairband seen in the footage was also found at her home address, police added.

Charles, of Sneinton Road, pleaded guilty to burglary and fraud by false representation. She was jailed for two years and five months at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

Rowley, of Tewkesbury Drive, Basford, admitted the same two charges and a further charge of possessing class A drugs. She was jailed for two years and two months.

They were also banned from contacting the victim.
