Some areas in Wisconsin saw more than four inches of rain in last 24 hours

Thunderstorms that moved through Wisconsin in the last 24 hours dumped upwards of four inches of rain on some communities, according to estimated totals from the National Weather Service.

The thunderstorms have moved slowly toward Milwaukee, NWS meteorologist Marcia Cronce explained, which produced continuous, steady rain.

Milwaukee is "going to have a solid rainy day today. Rain probably won't end in Milwaukee until 4:00 p.m., because we have a super slow-moving front that's going to take it's time getting to eastern Wisconsin," she said.

The NWS doesn't have estimated totals for the Milwaukee area yet. As of about 9:30 a.m., Milwaukee had picked up just over a tenth of an inch within an hour, which was not a large amount.

"The rain that we received, especially Madison and a lot of areas inland overnight, was higher than what was forecast," Cronce said. "We did increase our expected rainfall totals for this event based on what was going on overnight."

There are currently no flood advisories in effect anywhere in Wisconsin. But it will be dangerous to swim in Lake Michigan through Monday afternoon, due to gusty winds from the north that cause high waves.
