Some Dallas-Fort Worth grocers open Thanksgiving day, even with Walmart, Target closed

J.Smith3 months ago
Thanksgiving feasts require a lot of preparation, but even the best cooks might forget something. Guests may not have had time to buy a bottle of wine or just remembered they were bringing the rolls to dinner.

Grocers know that and several supermarkets will be open Thursday long enough so that customers can pick up pre-ordered cooked turkeys and side dishes.

But not everyone is open. Don’t go running to your local Walmart or Target. Both of those chains have started closing on Thanksgiving day since the pandemic and have made it a permanent holiday for their frontline workers. Aldi, Costco, Market Street, Sam’s Club, Target, Trader Joe’s and Walmart are also closed on Thanksgiving Day.

The day is short at many local supermarkets. Some ethnic stores stay open longer.

Drugstores will have some locations open: An unexpected trip to the drugstore on Thanksgiving Day will probably require a longer drive. Search for the store open near you because CVS said most of its stores, or about 80% overall, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Likewise, Walgreens said most of its stores will be closed, but almost all 700 of Walgreens’ 24-hour locations will remain open on Thanksgiving Day.
