Some San Augustine customers under boil water notice

San Augustine, Texas (KTRE) - Some San Augustine customers are under a boil water notice beginning Friday.

According to the city, crews are repairing a leak at the water tank located behind the hospital. Customers east of the railroad tracks are under the notice to boil their water. TCEQ has required the City of San Augustine public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consuming it (washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.) Children, seniors and anyone with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure bacteria and other microbes are destroyed, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled before usefor drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

If you do not want to or cannot boil water, you can purchase bottled water or get water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the notice.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, you may contact Chris Anding, superintendent, or Jeaneyse Mosby, City Manager, at city hall, located at 301 S. Harrison Street. The number is 936-275-2121.
