Some snow predicted for Butte area
It just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving in southwest Montana if a snow advisory didn’t pop up.
Residents can be thankful that it’s a winter weather advisory, not a winter storm warning. There is a difference.
A NWS advisory indicates a significant inconvenience to travelers. A warning, on the other hand, suggests that driving on the highways could be difficult or near impossible.
Snow accumulation in Butte, according to Marty Whitmore, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Missoula, will be 1 to 3 inches through 9 a.m. Friday.
“That’s actually a light amount,” said Whitmore.
The Missoula meteorologist cautions drivers headed to such Montana cities as Bozeman or Billings because Homestake Pass could get up to 6 inches of snow.
“Give yourself a little extra time to get to your destination,” Whitmore advised.
