A Somers man has been found guilty in Kenosha County Circuit Court of killing man in an Uptown apartment complex in October 2021 during a botched robbery.

A jury found Roscoe C. Patterson Jr. guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery and two counts of felony bail jumping, all as a repeat offender, according to online court records. His sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 7 before Judge Jason Rossell.

Patterson, who has been in custody on a $1.5 million cash bond, faces life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision.

The trial lasted a week and District Attorney Michael Graveley prosecuted the case. Jury deliberation began Wednesday afternoon and a verdict was reached a few hours later.

Patterson was convicted in the death of Marcus Giddens.

Co-defendant Andre D. Williams, 38, of Schofield in Marathon County near Wausau, is charged with felony counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of bail jumping, all as a repeat offender. A status conference in William's case is scheduled for Oct. 3.

At about 11:20 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2021, Kenosha police were called to a four-unit apartment building in the 6300 block of 24th Avenue, where they found Giddens with a gunshot wound to his upper left thigh, according to the criminal complaint. Giddens was taken to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital, where he died about an hour later.

An autopsy conducted in Milwaukee County determined that Giddens' femoral artery was struck by a bullet.

Video surveillance in the area showed a white sedan pull into the parking lot, and three people are seen leaving the vehicle toward an alley, according to the criminal complaint. About 18 minutes later, all three could be seen running back and getting back into the vehicle.

The complaint stated shell casings in a shooting in the City of Racine in September, in which Patterson was a suspect, matched the spent casings recovered in Uptown.

Williams is alleged to have attempted to force Giddens into his apartment, and at that time, the victim began calling for help and was banging on the walls, which is when Patterson shot him, the complaint states.

Police arrested Patterson on Oct. 14, 2021.

During a search warrant at Patterson's residence, police found an empty gun box for a Glock 9mm, along with a gun box for a Smith and Wesson 9mm.
