Southern Living says these Alabama pies are among the South’s best

B.Martinez46 min ago
For years, folks from all over the state made the trek to the small Hale County town of Greensboro in Alabama's Black Belt for a piece of pie served with a slice of Southern hospitality at Pie Lab, a sweet little oasis on Greensboro's Main Street.

Pie Lab – which began in 2009 as a social experiment by a group of young, fresh-out-of-college visionaries who thought the best way to bring people together was to serve them pie – unfortunately closed in 2020.

The good news, though, is a new owner, Thomas Reynolds, acquired the recipes from Pie Lab's most recent owners and rebranded the business as Greensboro Pie .

Our friends at Southern Living have taken notice.

The magazine includes Greensboro Pie on its new list of The 15 Best Pie Shops Across the South .

Here's what Southern Living's Madeline Weinfield has to say about Greensboro Pie:

"The talk of the town—and the state, for that matter—used to be the Pie Lab in Greensboro. Much to their fans' dismay, the shop shut its doors in 2020, leaving this region without their go-to source for a slice. But, like all good things, its legacy lives on—the recipes were purchased by a local, who opened a place of his own called Greensboro Pie. The menu features former Pie Lab favorites and has over 40 different choices. The bakery continues to be known for its Southern flavors, like Key Lime Icebox and Brown Sugar Buttermilk. Come fall, you'll find the irresistible Chocolate Bourbon Pecan and Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge too."

While Greensboro Pie does not have a storefront, Reynolds tells AL.com that his pies are available at another local favorite, The Stable coffee shop and restaurant, as well as at the Greensboro Food Outlet grocery store and the Piggly Wiggly in nearby Eutaw.
