"Transformers One" hits theaters on Friday, Sept. 20 — with a local voice leading the way.

Based on the popular Hasbro toy line, "Transformers One" is the latest installment in the film franchise and its first animated film since 1986's "Transformers: The Movie."

"Transformers One" is an origin story set on the planet Cybertron chronicling the history of Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots (the good guys), and Megatron, leader of the Decepticons (the bad guys), who go from brothers-in-arms to bitter enemies.

The ensemble cast features Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as Optimus; Brian Tyree Henry ("Atlanta") as Megatron; Scarlett Johansson ("Black Widow") as Elita; Steve Buscemi ("Fargo") as Starscream; Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix") as Sentinel Prime; and Southfield native, Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak and University of Detroit Mercy alumnus and Emmy nominee Keegan-Michael Key ("Key & Peele") as Bumblebee, perhaps the franchise's most popular character.

Oscar winner Josh Cooley ("Toy Story 4") is the director.

Rated PG for language and sci-fi violence and animated action throughout.
