SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Personnel with the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) have a new place to call home.

After the last few months of planning, the police department has finally begun to relocate personnel from their current headquarters at 1234 Texas Avenue to downtown Shreveport.

  • "This week, our community-oriented policing bureau has begun moving from the 1234 Texas location to our downtown substation, and that's where they are going to be for the coming months," Chris Bordelon, SPD's public information officer, explained.

On Thursday (Nov. 7), KSLA News 12 got a firsthand look as officers unpacked and settled into their new headquarters.

"Community liaison officers are responsible for many things in the community, where they will host camps in the summertime as well as going out to enforce different laws. So, they do have a lot of equipment including bikes, computers desk and stuff that's all going to be moved into that downtown location," Bordelon said.

Shreveport Police say this new move will increase their presence in downtown.

"It's going to give us a larger blueprint in downtown Shreveport as well as making those community liaison officers very accessible to the public," Bordelon said.

And if you're wondering what's next for SPD.

"We've begun the construction on the groundbreaking for the Monkhouse Drive substation , so we're hoping within the next year to actually have our west substation up and running. ...The west substation will house the traffic bureau, and that building is almost complete, and we should begin to move officers in at some point and time this month."
