s we creep ever closer to Halloween, the fun just keeps coming:

Jack-O'-Lantern Nights

RACINE — More than 1,000 hand-carved jack-o'-lanterns and festive illuminations light up the nights during the Racine Zoo's Halloween event, Jack-O'-Lantern Nights. The event is open 6-10 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, through Nov. 3.

Visitors walk through the zoo along a paved pathway decorated with lights and decorations, including intricately designed jack-o'-lanterns. Admission is $10; free for children age 2 and younger. Haunted trails

SOMERS — The trails may be haunted at Hawthorn Hollow in Somers on two Fridays, Oct. 18 and 25, with sessions starting at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Participants will walk along the candle-lit paths and discover the bone-chilling sounds, views and stories at the nature sanctuary and arboretum, 880 Green Bay Road.

Visitors will "hear bone-chilling tales from folklore, explore our trails after dark and create a festive Halloween craft," Hawthorn Hollow staffers said.

There will also be "spooky selfie spots" and food and beverages available for purchase. This event is family friendly, with no "jump scares," only "slightly chilling" stories and creepy natural elements throughout the forests.

Note: Only some of Hawthorn Hollow's trails will be open during these events. Visitors will receive a map of accessible areas. The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children age 12 and younger. Advance registration is required. Go to hawthornhollow.org . Note: Trails may be uphill, narrow, slippery or have roots or other natural hazards. This is an outdoor event. Dress for the weather conditions.

Candy and a 5K

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — "Trunk-or-Treat" and the "Scary in the Prairie" 5K walk/run are Saturday, Oct. 19, in Prairie Springs Park.

Trunk-or-Treat is 2:30-4:30 p.m. on the west side of Lake Andrea, near the beer garden parking lot at 10023 Park Drive. The free event features local businesses and organizations handing out treats from decorated trunks. Families are encouraged to wear costumes.

At 5 p.m., the Scary in the Prairie 5K starts and finishes at nearby Wruck Beach Pavilion, on the paved running path around Lake Andrea. The timed event is open to all ages. Registration fee is $30. Register in advance online at runreg.com/scary-in-the-prairie-5k until noon on Oct. 18. In-person registration and packet pickup is 4-4:45 p.m. on race day at the pavilion. Note: To receive a race shirt, early online registration is recommended. The race will also feature a Best Costume Contest.

Candy Crawls

RACINE — Downtown Racine Candy Crawls: The sixth annual Candy Crawl and Halloween Scavenger Hunt events are noon to 2 p.m. on two Saturdays, Oct. 19 and 26, featuring more than 30 participating Downtown businesses.

Children can trick-or-treat at businesses and follow a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt.

Halloween fun at the beach

KENOSHA — Monster Bash on the beach: The Simmons Island Beach House on Kenosha's Simmons Island Park is hosting a Halloween dance party 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. "You can 'dance 'til you drop'," organizers said, and also enjoy "a spooky escape room, tarot card readings and festive food and drinks." For more details, go to kenoshabeachhouse.com .

Howl-o-ween Bash on the beach: Canines and brunch are the focus Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Simmons Island Beach House during its Howl-o-ween Bash. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the party features a vegan Champagne brunch, plant-based food and craft vendors and live music at 11 a.m. with fiddler Georgia Rae. At noon is the Pet Costume Parade and Contest. If your pooch is ready to join the parade, sign up at the Simmons Island Beach House Facebook page.

Hallow Glow Nights

BRISTOL — Boundless Adventures Aerial Adventure Park, located inside Bristol Woods County Park, 9800 160th Ave., is hosting special Hallow Glow Nights Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 18-19 and 25-26. These Halloween season climbs feature trick-or-treat candy and creepy music. Costumes are encouraged. For more information, visit .

Carthage Halloween event

KENOSHA — Carthage College's Hedberg Library is hosting an evening of Halloween fun, 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the library.

Costumes are encouraged but not required. There will be trick-or-treating, carnival games and various Halloween-themed activities.

Author Aaron Hunter will also read his book "Tales of the Magical Postcards in Germany" and sign books at 5:30 p.m. A limited number of books will be available for purchase the night of the event.

Party at Wustum Museum

RACINE — Wustum Museum, 2519 Northwestern Ave., is hosting a Halloween party

Trunk-or-Treat at Grande Prairie

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — This free "trunk or treat" festival is 3-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Grande Prairie Care and Rehab Center's parking lot, 10330 Prairie Ridge Boulevard. Families are invited to this free outdoor event. Children (encouraged to come in costume) can trick-or-treat and get candy from residents of the care center and vendors. There will also be free hayrides, face painting and a balloon artist. This is a "rain or shine" event but will move inside if it's pouring rain.

Trick-or-treat at the zoo

RACINE — In addition to its Jack-O'-Lantern Nights, the Racine Zoo hosts Boo at the Zoo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Activities include trick-or-treating, cookie decorating, a Halloween craft, pumpkin decorating (while supplies last) and creepy, crawly animal ambassadors. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Boo at the Zoo is included with zoo admission. racinezoo.org .

Outdoor movie night

SOMERS — The 2019 animated film "The Addams Family" will be shown outside on a screen in Petrifying Springs Park, 5555 Seventh St., at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Free activities start at 3 p.m. with pumpkin painting, trick-or-treating with local nonprofit groups and yard games. Admission is free. Check the Kenosha County Parks' Facebook page for updates.

Trunk-or-Treat at Bristol School

BRISTOL — The Growing With Bristol community group hosts a free trunk-or-treat event Saturday, Oct. 26, at Bristol School, 20121 83rd St., in the North Parking Lot, off of 83rd Street. Candy will be handed out from 4 to 5:15 p.m. If the weather is good, the film "Hocus Pocus" will be shown outside after the candy fun. Spooky City

BURLINGTON — Spooky City returns to Burlington Saturday, Oct. 26, starting in the morning and running until late at night. Halloween hike and s'mores

BRIGHTON — Richard Bong State Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Road, is hosting a Halloween hike, 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Participants will walk along a lighted trail with trick-or-treat stops. There will also be s'mores. Note: Costumes are encouraged but make sure to dress for the weather. Meet at Shelter No. 1. A state park vehicle admission sticker is required to enter Bong.

Downtown Trick-or-Treating

KENOSHA — Children are invited to dress up in their costumes and trick-or-treat in Downtown Kenosha during "Trick or Treat on Sixth Avenue." From 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, "little ghosts and goblins" can visit Downtown businesses and collect candy.

Halloween hike

BRISTOL — Pringle Nature Center, 9800 160th Ave. inside Bristol Woods County Park, is hosting its Halloween Candlelight Night Hike,

Participants will check in at the front of Pringle Nature Center during their start time before following the candlelit trail through the woods. This is a self-guided and family-friendly walk but may not be suitable for those who have difficulty navigating trails in the dark. Pre-registration is required at pringlenc.org/events (no walk-ins). When signing up, choose from one of three start times and register early, as space is limited.

Trick-or-Treat at the 'Y'

KENOSHA — From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 26, families are invited to this free event, featuring games, arts and crafts, and trick-or-treating for candy at the Kenosha YMCA, 7101 53rd St. Note: To ensure there are enough craft supplies and candy for everyone, registration is required.
