Sports Update - Friday, October 18th

The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 4-1 decision to the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Winkler Flyers at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Rhylan Baxter had the lone goal for the Caps who outshot the Flyers 39-27.

The Manitoba Moose assigned forward Carson Golder to the organization's ECHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. Golder, 21, posted six points in 14 games with the Moose during the 2023-24 AHL season. He also recorded 28 points in 32 games with Norfolk.

Canada's Shaun Meachem finished in first place with a 7-0 record at the 2024 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland. Meachem along with vice-skip Kelly Schafer, second Chris Haichert and lead Teejay Haichert won their round robin finaled 8-5 over Brett Sargon of New Zealand. Meachem will meet Simon Spits of the Netherlands in the first round of the playoffs. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals.
