NHL free agency begins at 11 a.m. today. The Winnipeg Jets placed defenceman Nate Schmidt on unconditional waivers Sunday. The Jets also sent qualifying offers to restricted free agents Cole Perfetti, David Gustafsson, Logan Stanley, Ville Heinola and Simon Lundmark.
Canada will meet Venezuela in the quarterfinals at Copa American on Friday in Arlington, Texas. Canada finished second in group A behind Argentina while Venezuela was first in group B while Ecuador was second.

Winnipeg has Canada Day off. The Goldeyes will wrap up their nine-game road trip with a three-game set against the Sioux City Explorers beginning Tuesday night.
