Springfield boy dies in Sunday night shooting in Peoria

PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The Peoria County Coroner has identified a 10-year-old boy, who died Sunday night in a shooting in Peoria.

On Monday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the boy as 10-year-old Lamar Johnson, II of Springfield, Illinois.

He said autopsy results show Johnson suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and likely died within seconds.

Peoria Police spokeswoman Semone Roth said a two-round ShotSpotter came in around 7:35 p.m. on the 600 block of Romeo B. Garrett Avenue at the Cityscape Apartments.

There is no word on a suspect at this time and the shooting remains under investigation.
