V.Lee58 min ago

CHI Health St. Francis recognizes nurse Andrew Hernandez, RN, its most recent DAISY Award recipient. Hernandez is recognized for excellence in nursing and providing above-and-beyond compassionate care to her patients and their families.

The hospital chooses one recipient monthly from the many nominations submitted by patients, families and staff.

A grateful patient writes: "From the get go Andrew was extremely welcoming and so nice. He listened to all of my concerns and was very empathetic. He was also very, very nice and knowledgeable. My ER visit was one of the best ones I have had in a long, longtime. We need more people like Andrew in the healthcare profession."

The DAISY Foundation was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of an auto-immune disease (hence the name, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) Barnes received extraordinary care from his nurses, and his family felt compelled to express their profound gratitude for the compassion and skill nurses bring to patients and families every day. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses celebrates nurses in more than 1,800 healthcare facilities around the world.
