Startup Spotlight: Motmot
Founded in 2022 by Elliot Smith at Michigan State University in East Lansing and currently working out of Newlab at Michigan Central in Detroit, Motmot specializes in the use of autonomous underwater robotics for the inspection and management of underground water pipe networks.
Motmotâ€TMs goal is to improve operational efficiency and reduce water loss for municipalities and water authorities.
The company recently won the $15,000 first-place prize in the 2024 Burgess New Venture Challenge.
"We are an early-stage tech startup dedicated to transforming the way communities approach drinking water," Smith says. "We investigate infrastructure, help manage assets and data, and raise public awareness about deficiencies to generate vital funding for communities in need."
