SAN ANTONIO - The state is working to get help for veterans who are struggling with mental health.

Several state and local leaders attended an event that addressed ways they can do more to prevent veteran suicide.

They say the impact of the crisis is disturbing especially when you look at the numbers and see the rates among active military personnel and veterans.

Last session, the Texas legislature passed 'HCR 12' designating September 22nd as Texas veterans suicide prevention day.

According to the VA, on average, we lose 22 veterans a day to suicide-related deaths.

The event happened Sunday at the VFW post 76.

It offered resources to veterans, men, and women in need of help.
