Pennsylvania Education Secretary Gerald Zahorchak will hold a press conference at Wyoming Area Secondary Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the proposed state education budget. The public is welcome.

The center is at 20 Memorial Street, Exeter.
Zahorchak intends to specifically address the budget proposed by the Republican Senate, which would spend considerably less than Gov. Ed Rendell has proposed. Despite the harsh economy and a growing deficit in the state budget, Rendell has proposed to continue the five-year increase in state education spending he launched last year.
Here is part of the press release from the Department of education:

"Education Secretary Zahorchak has invited school officials, school board members, as well as parents to speak at the event. The scheduled one-hour press conference will take place outdoors in front of the school’s main entrance at 20 Memorial Street, Exeter.

Last month, the GOP-controlled Senate passed a $27.3-billion budget for fiscal 2009-2010 that would scale back the $29 billion in spending Gov. Rendell had proposed.
Wyoming Area has been chosen as one of the twelve designated stops throughout the Commonwealth during this bus tour. This will be the Education Secretary’s only visit to northeastern Pennsylvania regarding this matter.
