LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As election day quickly approaches, state officials want to ensure everyone stays safe.

Both the U.S. Attorney for the Western District Mark Totten and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel detailed our states election laws.

The office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sent out a 14 page letter, compiling new and existing laws that may come up on election day or during early voting.

It included everything from laws surrounding weapons to voter and election official intimidation.

"This guidance is critical to keep us all on the same page and preserve the rights of Michiganders in every community, and to maintain a safe environment at every voting location across the state," said Nessel.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District Mark Totten delivering a similar message.

"Voting is the cornerstone of American democracy. We work to make sure that everyone who is entitled to vote gets to vote and those who seek to corrupt the election are brought to justice," said Totten.

Totten also gave tips on how Michiganders can protect their vote and election integrity.

"Know when, where, and how you will vote. Second, seek out election information from trustworthy sources, and third, report any potential election crimes to the FBI," said Totten.

On Thursday, Totten announced a hotline and website where people can make a complaint or share information related to voting right concerns. For more information,.
