The Carrickmacross enterprise hub was officially opened earlier this month by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys with representatives from Monaghan County Council, Enterprise Monaghan and a number of local politicians.

Its emergence has been greeted with much enthusiasm locally as the continued push towards a remote working world in a post pandemic era takes hold.

To date, the facility boats 11 tenants who are currently availing of the hub's 17 units, supporting up to 50 jobs in the process.

Now, local authority chiefs have announced the C:TEK II Hub has joined the Gigabit Hub Initiative, a joint venture between SIRO and Vodafone which provides gigabit connectivity for digital working hubs across Ireland.

In joining rank with that rollout, the Carrickmacross facility is set to join the likes of Dundalk's Creative Spark and Galway's PorterShed by becoming the 24th hub nationwide to join the enterprise.

The move will also allow the C:TEK II Hub provide businesses and tenants with speeds of up to 25 gigabits.

Details surrounding the announcement and continued anticipated expansion of a facility in underpinning Monaghan's economic resurgence has been met with much optimism locally.

"Supporting innovation and driving economic growth in the region are top priorities for Monaghan County Council," said Monaghan County Council CEO Robert Burns.

"We are confident that the partnership between SIRO and Vodafone will significantly advance these goals.

"The Gigabit Hub Initiative, with its provision of high-speed connectivity, will foster the development of new businesses in the Carrickmacross area and promote sustainable job creation throughout the region".
