Steve Spagnuolo says theres no weakness in Brock Purdy’s game, Purdy says otherwise.

The San Francisco 49ers are a day away from the Kansas City Chiefs . Whether you call this the "Revenge Game," it will certainly be an important game.

The Chiefs don't just have experience against the 49ers' offense, but experience giving them some issues. Notably, man coverage had a hand in the Super Bowl loss. That defensive game plan can be attributed to defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo had high praise for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Obviously, Purdy was the one who had to navigate that defense and nearly put the 49ers in a position to win.

"I can't find a weakness in this [Purdy] quarterback," Spagnuolo said when asked about preparing for the 49ers offense. "Every time I put the film on, I'm more and more impressed."

That is some high praise from one of the best defensive coordinators in the league. Purdy would be asked about it days later.

"I would disagree," Purdy said with a laugh. "I think I've definitely got stuff to work on and get better at. I appreciate the comments, but in the NFL, there's always something to get better at. And as a quarterback, too, you can never be perfect. There's always something. So I appreciate it, but yeah, I got to get better, too."

Regardless of what Purdy thinks of Spagnuolo's words, there's no taking away the fact that when Spagnuolo says something that positive, it may carry some weight. That said, when have you ever heard a coach of an upcoming opponent not talk positively about someone? Sure we see coaches making fools of themselves during games , and we see some make callouts after the game when things are heated. In the leadup? They aren't going to say anything negative.

Even when the 49ers were under Chip Kelly , they were called a good football team by opposing coaches. Most of this is keeping up appearances and being positive a good deal of it is probably avoiding the Michael Jordan effect where they get a player taking it personally. You don't want to give a professional athlete any fuel when you are going up against them.

This isn't saying what Spagnuolo says is insincere or that deep down the Chiefs think Purdy is horrible. It's saying we really don't know how much respect the Chiefs coaching staff really has for Brock Purdy.

Let's see how he does against Spagnuolo in round 2. Maybe this lack of weakness will be apparent.
