Stevensville Country Christmas, Parade of Lights set for Dec. 1
The Christmas lights were hung over Main Street with care, in hopes that holiday revelers would soon be there.
The Stevensville Country Christmas and Parade of Lights will take place Friday, Dec. 1, from 6-9 p.m.
Stevensville’s Main Street will play host to a bevy of seasonal cheer including Christmas carols, carriage rides and a live reading of “T'was the Night Before Christmas,” along with the annual Parade of Lights.
The Stevensville Fire Department hung the Christmas lights along Main Street with help from the Stevensville Civic Club and American Legion in mid-November in preparation for the annual event. The lights will officially be lit for the season at the beginning of the parade.
The parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. There is no registration or fee to participate and anyone is welcome to join. Those wishing to participate in the parade are asked to line up at Lewis and Clark Park at 5:30 p.m.
A reading of "The Christmas Story" by Light of the Valley, Assembly of God Church will take place following the parade at the northwest corner of Third and Main streets, followed by the live reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Greg Overstreet.
Horse-drawn carriage rides will begin after the parade and last until 9 p.m. Carriage rides are free for anyone who attends thanks to the Corvallis Civic Club.
"It’s sponsored and paid for by the Stevensville Civic Club,” Doyle said. “Rather than going looking for additional sponsorships or donations or anything, this one we just kind of do as a gift to the community.”
Main Street business will be open with specials and holiday events. Valley Drug will have story time and pictures with Mrs. Clause at 5:30 and 7 p.m. You may even catch a glimpse of the big man himself.
“Santa is going to be wandering around on Main Street after the parade,” said Civic Club president Sean Doyle. “There's various businesses that are having different specials and some are having activities. St. Mary's is doing nativities from around the world and some kids crafts. Country Christmas is pretty light, just kind of a low-key, come hang out kind of event.”
