A Manor ISD student was fatally stabbed Tuesday after an altercation at Manor Senior High School.

Austin-Travis County EMS told KUT News they were called out to the high school at 12:47 p.m. and unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate a teenaged victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The student who allegedly stabbed the other student is in police custody, Manor ISD said.

The Manor Police Department identified the victim as 18-year-old Darrin Loving on Tuesday evening. Police say he was stabbed in the chest. The suspect, Mac Brown Mbah Mbanwei was detained, arrested and charged with murder. Mbanwei, who is also 18, is currently being held in Travis County jail. MPD said it is still investigating the "isolated" incident as a homicide.

The district closed early Tuesday at Manor Senior High School, Manor Early College High School and Manor High. School is canceled Wednesday and Thursday, as well, and the district is still weighing whether to cancel classes Friday.

Manor ISD Superintendent Robert Sormani said the incident is "devastating for our entire community," and that counselors will be available for staff and students at campuses this week during closures and when campuses open back up.

Sormani added that the district is reviewing its on-campus security in light of the stabbing.

"We understand that this situation raises concerns," he said. "Our priority is to be present for all students and staff as we navigate this difficult time together."

Counselors will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manor Early College and at Manor High School on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well.
