Suit filed over environmental concerns with Brent Spence project

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Several organizations are suing a list of federal and state agencies over environmental concerns related to the Brent Spence Bridge corridor project.

The Devou Good Foundation, along with Queen City Bike, and several local groups are behind the lawsuit.

Leaders of those groups say they're challenging the Federal Highway Administration's finding in May that the project won't have any significant environmental impacts.

They say they have concerns about things like increased air pollution, noise pollution, flooding, the removal of forest, and destruction of habitat for endangered species.

The groups say they believe those issues could especially impact minority communities but fear the concerns are being overlooked.

They're asking for a full environmental impact statement on the Brent Spence bridge project.

The groups believe that would lead to officials to take a closer look at whether it's really necessary to expand from eight lanes of traffic to 16.

We did reach out to some of the agencies named in the lawsuit including the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Officials say they aren't commenting at this time.
