Elmira, N.Y. (WETM)– Happy Tuesday and happy Election Day! We'll be heading to the polls with sunshine and warmer temperatures today. Details below:
TODAY:
We're sitting in the sweet spot of our frontal system—right behind the warm front and well ahead of the cold front. High pressure off to the southeast is filtering in warm, dry air into the region, which allows for mostly sunny skies this morning and afternoon. Temperatures today will top off in the low 70s.
TONIGHT:
Expect mostly clear skies this evening with mild temperatures. Temperatures will drop to around 58°F by morning, so overnight will be a bit cooler. Clouds will gradually increase after midnight as a cold front approaches, but no precipitation is expected. It's a great night to enjoy outdoor activities before the clouds roll in later.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
A few showers start the day tomorrow, and our warmer conditions persist. However, later in the week, temperatures will dip, bringing a crisper and chilly feel, especially by Friday when clear skies return. The weekend looks to be slightly warmer with more sunshine, though Sunday could bring some clouds and a slight chance of showers. Overnight lows will generally be cooler, with some frosty conditions possible toward the end of the week.
