Supreme Court disbars Omaha attorney for failing to report $2.8M in cash to IRS
An Omaha attorney sentenced last year in federal court for filing false individual income tax returns was disbarred on Friday from the practice of law by the Nebraska Supreme Court.
A year ago in federal court, Thomas Campbell of Bennington pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return and was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, followed by one year of supervised release, and he was ordered to pay $407,665 in restitution.
According to court documents and statements made in court, between 2014 and 2018, Campbell, the owner and manager of TLN Law, a solo-practice law firm in Omaha, had failed to report over $2.8 million in cash his firm received.
In an order Friday, the Nebraska Supreme Court said that after the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska issued an order revoking Campbell's license to practice law before it, the Counsel for Discipline of the Nebraska Supreme Court filed a motion for reciprocal discipline.
Campbell, who had been suspended since January pending the decision, had argued for a three-year suspension, plus probation, instead of disbarment.
