usan D. Chanowski, age 97 years, of Gloucester Township, N.J., formerly of
Wilkes-Barre, Pa., died Oct. 24, 2001.



Born May 20, 1904, in Glasgow, Scotland, at the age of 2 she came to
America with her parents, John and Anna (Malikauskas) Chanowski. They came to
Wilkes-Barre, where she lived most of her lifetime, to the Heights section.
She graduated from Wilkes-Barre High School in 1922. She earned her degree
from Marywood College in 1926, and went on to become a teacher at Spangler,
Pennsylvania, High School until 1942. In 1943, she was employed by Pomeroy’s
Department Store, where she was personnel director and later an interviewer in
the credit office. She retired on June 3, 1969.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John; and her sister, Anne
Stanton.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Dorothy and Gene Fricks, of
Blackwood, N.J.; Anne and Charles Peters, of Mississippi; John and Sally
Chanowski, of Michigan; Stuart Chanowski, of Delaware; and Neil Chanowski, of
Virginia; grandnieces and nephews, Karen and John French; Natalie and David
Dilks; Tina and Jason Gwynn; Michele and Greg Gerkin; and Trista, Kara, and
Eric Chanowski; great-nieces and nephews, Sarah French; Kevin, Danielle, and
Shannon Dilks; Christian and Zachery Gwynn; and Jonas and Liam Gerkin.



The viewing will be Monday, 9 to 10 a.m., at Earle Funeral Home-Erial, 2000
Erial-Clementon Road, Erial, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at
