A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old who collapsed and died on his grandfather's front porch earlier this week.

Malik Farris, a 21-year-old Trussville man, is charged with murder in the death of Amauria Caffey.

He is also charged with first-degree theft property and first-degree criminal mischief stemming from actions after the shooting involving the victim's property, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Additional details were not released, and online court records on those charges were not yet available.

The shots rang out at 12:12 p.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Fifth Street North . That location is in the Enon Ridge neighborhood.

Police said more than 20 shots were fired.

Fitzgerald said the deadly shooting happened during argument over a previous incident that involved neither the victim nor suspect.

More than a dozen distraught family and friends flocked to the scene, visibly emotional.

Caffey's father ran through the police perimeter trying to get to his son, but police were able to get to him and stop him from going any further.

A man at the scene identified himself to AL.com as the victim's grandfather and said he died on his front porch.

Farris turned himself into police. He is being held without bond.
