Suspect named, and now sought, in connection with death of UCCS professor
Colorado Springs police announced a suspect Monday in the stabbing death of a University of Colorado Colorado Springs professor three months ago.
Police found the body of 54-year-old Haleh Abghari on the morning of Aug. 7 at a residence in the 6400 block of Caddy Point, which is near the intersection of North Powers Boulevard and North Carefree Circle.
Abghari was a professor in the visual and performing arts department at UCCS.
A GoFundMe fundraiser to help Abghari's family with funeral expenses has raised more than $40,000 as of Monday.
Police said Abghari had suffered at least one stab wound, though the El Paso County Coroner's Office is still determining the official cause of death.
Monday's police news release states that investigating detectives have developed probable cause for the arrest of 53-year-old Ceasar Lorenzo Wilson.
An arrest warrant for Wilson for murder in the second degree has been issued. As of Monday morning, police said Wilson was not located or arrested.
Court records show that Wilson was arrested in July on a kidnapping and misdemeanor assault charge, but bailed out of custody. He failed to appear for his court date in that case for a court hearing on Aug. 12, and has been sought by authorities ever since.
The department is seeking the community's assistance in locating Wilson. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Police caution that he should not be approached.
If you have seen or know of the whereabouts of Wilson, please contact police at 719-444-7000, or to remain anonymous, call Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 800-222-8477.
