Addley sent a letter to staff and families on Monday night alerting them of the situation.

"While we have taken steps to educate our students on the impact of hateful symbols and language, we recognize that our district, like all communities, reflects the broader societal challenges of prejudice and discrimination," Addley said. "In recent years, we have encountered similar incidents involving swastikas on school property at both the middle and high school. These incidents are deeply disturbing and do not reflect the values of our district or our town. Our message remains clear: there is no place for hate, bigotry, or anti-Semitism in Darien Public Schools."

Addley went on to say that over the last few years, the school district has collaborated with the Anti-Defamation League; Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan & Darien; and the National COnference for Community and Justice "to provide ongoing education, programs and support."

"Our schools must be environments where all students feel safe and welcome," Addley added. "In the coming days, I will be inviting parents and our broader school community to join me in a conversation on this topic to ensure that our schools continue to be places of respect and inclusivity."
