Sylvia Gerstein, 88, of Wilmington, Del. formerly of Kingston, died
Wednesday at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington.
Born in Nanticoke, Aug. 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Max
Wachman and Dora Lerner Wachman Fox, and the stepdaughter of Boris Fox. She
was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre and prior to her
retirement, was employed as a bookkeeper for the United Hebrew Institute,
Kingston. Mrs. Gerstein was a member of Ohav Zedek, its Sisterhood, and the
Jewish Community Center, as well as other religious and civic organizations.
She was also a volunteer for the Wyoming Valley Red Cross Blood Drives.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilson, in 1984, and her
daughter, Myrna Gerstein Jacobson.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Helen Gerstein,
Wilmington; grandchildren, Bonnie Davis, Jeffrey Jacobson, Daniel Gerstein;
great-grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Zachary Jacobson; sisters, Anna Levy,
Wilkes-Barre, Ruth Eisenstein, Scottsdale, Ariz., nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at Rosenberg Funeral Chapel,
will follow in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Shiva will be observed at the home of her son, Marvin Gerstein, in
Wilmington.
