Taking steps to prevent respiratory illnesses

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - As the weather cools down and folks spend more time inside, viruses like COVID, flu, and RSV are on the increase.

Health experts say one of the most important steps to stay healthy during the fall and winter months is to get vaccinated.

Vermont health officials are encouraging everyone six months and older to get this year's updated flu and COVID-19 vaccines. RSV immunizations are also widely available for pregnant people infants, and older adults.

Vaccinations are available by appointment at doctors' offices, pharmacies, and community health centers across the state.

Cat Viglienzoni spoke with the health department's Merideth Plumpton about the latest recommendations.
