Taunton Wild Goat Chase Leads to Successful Capture

TAUNTON ( WBSM ) — In a turn of twisting events for Taunton residents, a wild goat sparked a police chase that ultimately concluded with its capture in a neighborhood on Friday night.

On September 20, a Taunton Police Facebook post warned residents that a goat was on the loose, assuring them that if spotted in their front yard, their eyes were not seeing things.

Sightings of the wild animal happened near Steve Drive, where multiple attempts by police and animal control to capture the goat were unsuccessful, but with hopes that he would eventually wander back home – though that was not the case.

Thanks to the community, alongside further help from Animal Control, the lone goat was finally secured in the yard of a home on Homestead Crossing, where police found refuge in their garage and also inside their home for safety.

Despite the unpredictability of the situation, there were no reported injuries to the goat or anyone else.

The highlight of the situation was when the Taunton Police Department shared the "arrest" on Facebook with a humorous post.

Out of all the crimes dealt with on a regular basis, this must have felt like a refreshing change of pace for police, even with the ongoing chase and previous failed capture attempts.

However, this isn't the first time the SouthCoast has had run-ins with escaped livestock running through the street. Just last month, Raynham residents were on alert for a loose bull on the highway , and more recently, eight bulls were caught parading around North Attleboro after jumping a fence during a rodeo at Emerald Square Mall.

Interestingly, both of those incidents involved bulls – certainly not the type of animals you'd expect to see during your typical day or that you would want to encounter.

As far as the goat, there's no indication of where he came from or how he escaped, but we're just glad his life was spared during the ordeal.
