TCEQ approves Denison rock and concrete crushing plant

C.Wright20 hr ago
DENISON, Texas (KXII) - After months of meeting, petitioning, arguing that a rock and concrete crushing plant does not belong in a Denison neighborhood, residents finally have an answer — but it's not the one they were hoping for.

According to a letter sent to News 12, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality officially approved the project.

So, as of now, the plant will be built in Denison, permanently.

Construction on the plant must begin within the next 18 months.

Guidelines for the plant's operation that are included in the letter state, among other things, that:

  • The plant must operate at least 440 yards away from any residential buildings
  • All stockpiles must be at least 100 feet away from the edge of the property
  • The plant can't operate more than an hour after sundown and an hour before sunrise
  • But the entire project could come to a halt if a motion to overturn is filed by September 27.

Residents tell News 12 that they are exploring that option as well as working with legal counsel.

The resident's major concerns are with air quality, possible impacts on property values, and damage to the roads caused by heavy work trucks.

News 12 will continue to follow this story in the coming weeks.
