Teenage Cancer Trust Jersey marks 15th anniversary and closes

A charity that has raised £2.5m for children with cancer is closing its Jersey branch.

The Teenage Cancer Trust Jersey was founded by Irene Haycock in 2009 after her son Calvin was diagnosed with the disease aged 14.

The money raised has helped young people and their families.

Kate Collins, chief executive at Teenage Cancer Trust, thanked the group and praised them for going "above and beyond".

A charity spokesperson said: "The time has come for the Jersey appeal to wind down operations, and the group is celebrating everything that has been achieved and [is] calling for islanders to build on its vital work by continuing to support the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Ms Haycock said: "I could never have imagined that we could have achieved so much.

"From a small volunteering committee who have been outstanding in their support and commitment, we have raised an incredible £2.5m.

"This has made a huge difference to teenagers in Jersey who have experienced cancer.

"I have met some of the most amazing and courageous people along the way and I hope that support on the island continues to enable the charity to provide the best services to young people who experience cancer now and in the future."

Ms Collins said: "We are so grateful for the absolutely outstanding support of the Jersey appeal and want to thank every member, past and present."
