Temple University Appoints Pedro A. Ramos to Board of Trustees
Temple University has named Pedro A. Ramos to its Board of Trustees for a four-year term, expanding its leadership. Ramos is the president and CEO of the Philadelphia Foundation.
Temple University has elected Pedro A. Ramos to its Board of Trustees, where he will begin a four-year term. Ramos, the president and CEO of the Philadelphia Foundation, was selected earlier this month to join the university's governing body, bringing his extensive experience in philanthropy and civic leadership.
Ramos, who grew up near Temple's Main Campus, said he was honored to contribute to an institution with such a deep connection to the community. "I first heard about Russell Conwell and 'acres of diamonds' at age 10 when I enrolled at Conwell Middle Magnet School in Kensington," he said. "It's extraordinary how Temple has stayed true to that vision over generations, and I'm excited to be part of it."
Mitchell L. Morgan, chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm for Ramos' appointment. "Pedro is a wonderful addition to the Board of Trustees, and we are excited to see him deepen his relationship with Temple University," Morgan said. "Over the past year, I have worked closely with Pedro as he served on the university's Presidential Search Advisory Committee. His commitment to both the city of Philadelphia and Temple is evident, and I look forward to working with him further."
Ramos has been a key figure in the growth of the Philadelphia Foundation, where he has led efforts to expand philanthropic investments, increase grants, and foster large-scale collaborations. Under his leadership, the foundation has more than doubled its assets and tripled its grants, making a significant impact on communities in the greater Philadelphia area, particularly for low-income and marginalized groups.
In addition to Ramos' appointment, Temple University's Board of Trustees has reappointed five current trustees to new, four-year terms. The reappointed members include Barry C. Arkles, Stephen G. Charles, Susanna Lachs, Lon R. Greenberg and Phillip C. Richards.
Morgan was also reappointed as board chair for a one-year term, continuing his leadership role at the university.
Temple University's Board of Trustees consists of 36 voting members, with 24 elected by their peers and 12 appointed by officials of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition to these voting members, the governor of Pennsylvania, the state's secretary of education, and the mayor of Philadelphia serve as ex-officio, nonvoting trustees.
Ramos brings a wealth of experience in philanthropy, higher education, law, and government to his new role on the board, and his appointment signals a continued focus on strengthening Temple's ties to the Philadelphia community.
