Leitrim County Council in partnership with Roscommon County Council are carrying out The Roosky Bridge footpath trial from Monday, September 23 to Sunday, October 6, 2024.

There is currently no designated area for pedestrians to cross at Roosky Bridge.

The trial includes installation of temporary footpath using bollards on the existing bridge and temporary traffic signals to control traffic over the bridge to one way flow.

Data will be collected during the trial to assess feasibility and operability of a permanent Footpath being constructed on the existing Roosky Bridge.

Leitrim County Council in partnership with Roscommon County Council want to hear from all parts of the community to obtain feedback and ensure fair input into the design process.

Users are invited to come and try the temporary footpath on the bridge during the trial and send in feedback through the on-line or in-person survey.

A spokesperson for the project said there are many anticipated local benefits to the proposed project.

"The proposed footpath will segregate users from vehicular traffic while direct pedestrian access will link the village centre to the residential and community areas east of the River Shannon.

"Enhanced facilities will encourage more children to walk or cycle to nearby Roosky National School, while enhanced walking and cycling facilities help more people to choose walking or cycling for short trips.

"Enhanced accessibility and safety for vulnerable road users with minimum delays."
