Temps On A Rollercoaster: Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend On Long Island
LONG ISLAND, NY — The pre-Thanksgiving storm that pounded much of the eastern United States is on its way out of our region (creating problems in New England for travelers and residents).
Now in the storm's wake, a short-term big dip in temperatures is on its way.
"Drastic weather changes are already on the way in the mid-Atlantic and will expand on Thanksgiving and Black Friday," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.
While Wednesday the high could even reach 60 as we begin to dry out, Thanksgiving Day will be cooler — with gusty winds on the East End.
Temps continue to drop for two days. On Black Friday, highs might only be in the upper 40s, and lows on Friday night will be in the 20s. By Saturday, temps will struggle to get into the high 30s during the day.
Then on Sunday, highs are expected to swing back into the upper 40s.
If you're heading home after the holiday, it's Sunday morning that will produce the worst congestion in the New York Metro Area, AAA predicts — from the Jersey Shore north via the Garden State Parkway.
Here's the daily forecast for the holiday weekend, based on Lindenhurst:
