Students from Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South high schools earned grade class honors in this year's Rose-Hulman High School Mathematics Competition conducted on campus Nov. 9. West Vigo and Northview students also joined the 330 problem solvers from 20 schools across Indiana and Illinois competing this year. Jeffrey Chen of South was among four students placing first among juniors after posting perfect 100-point scores. That helped the school finish fourth in the class, the best team performance by any local school. Other local students placing among the top 12 finishers in any of the four grade divisions were Christopher Park, seventh in the junior class; Yash Parikh of South, 10th in the sophomore class; Cameron Naidu of North, 11th in the sophomore class; and Michael Park, 11th in the freshman class. Students had one hour to answer 20 problems covering a wide range of mathematics categories, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and number theory. Carmel High School took home top overall school honors for the 15th straight year, followed by the Signature School (Evansville), Fishers, and Marion high schools. This year's competition, the 58th in history, was organized by Rose-Hulman Department of Mathematics faculty and staff members John Rickert, William Butske, Klye Claassen, Leanne Holder and Katie Lindsey.
