A 28-year-old Houston man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for a violent carjacking in which he repeatedly pistol-whipped a victim.

Dominique Luis-Donte Quinones-Amos pleaded guilty in February to charges stemming from the October 2021 carjacking. U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen handed down the 108-month sentence, citing Quinones-Amos's extensive criminal history, which includes assault, burglary, and grand theft auto.

"Quinones-Amos engaged in a series of offenses that put the people of this district in danger in a variety of ways – a carjacking, brandishing a gun, using fully-automatic conversion devices and even financial crimes," said Hamdani. "This office will not allow such dangers to go unanswered, and today's sentence will keep the community safe for several years to come from this one-man wrecking crew."

During the carjacking, Quinones-Amos confronted two men in a parking lot, striking one in the face before turning his attention to the driver. He then pistol-whipped the driver multiple times before stealing his vehicle. DNA evidence later linked Quinones-Amos to the crime.

The investigation also revealed that Quinones-Amos, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was involved in illegal gun sales and had posted videos of himself firing a weapon with a machine gun conversion device.

Quinones-Amos will remain in custody pending transfer to a federal prison facility.
